    About Portmahomack

Portmahomack is best known for its stunning setting. Situated in North East of Scotland, Portmahomack is an ideal stop on the ever popular North Coast 500 Route. With a golden sandy beach, a harbour, the lighthouse and a couple of places to stop for a drink and some food, Portmahomack is perfect for those looking for a quiet break away surrounded by nature.

Portmahomack faces West meaning it gets some of the most breathtaking sunsets without the midges present on the West Coast. It's microclimate is unusually dry with some of the lowest rainfall in the Highlands. Dating back to 800 AD, Portmahomack has a rich and important history. The Tarbat Discovery Centre is of great importance to the village and Scotland as a whole doubling a museum and activity centre to be enjoyed by the whole family. It's a great resource and well worth the visit if in the area.

You can also find a campsite, a 9-hole golf course, a local shop and post office within Portmahomack. It is only a 10 minute drive from the next town, Tain, where you will find supermarkets along with independent shops, eateries and transport links to Inverness and further North.
